On 4th 2009, TV services in our region (GRANADA) will go completely digital.
(YORKSHIRE begins 2011 - dates to be set for each transmitter)
This process is called digital switchover. The UK’s
old television broadcast signal (known as “analogue”)
is being switched off and replaced with a “digital”
signal. Any TV set or video recorder that’s not converted
to digital when the switchover takes place will no longer
receive TV programmes.
If you currently receive just the traditional five UK channels
(BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4 and Five) – or only
some of them – on any of your TV sets, you’ll
need to think about your options for getting digital TV. Every
TV set you want to keep watching in your home will need to
be converted or upgraded to digital.
First you need to choose how you want to receive your TV signal;
Through an aerial (via either a digital box or digital
TV)
Through a satellite dish
Through a cable
Through a telephone line
How Do I Upgrade?
To view digital TV you can either upgrade your existing TV
by adding a set-top digibox (either FREEVIEW or SKY) or by
getting a new TV with digital tuners (DVB) built-in. Remember
without a digibox ALL TV's in your home will need to have
a built-in digital.
Recording Digital and watching one channel whilst
recording another....
Recording after switchover - With your TV
already converted, existing analogue recorders (VCRs and analogue
DVD recorders) will continue to work after switchover. They
will play back tapes as before, but will not be able to record
one digital channel while you are watching another. If you
are buying a new DVD recorder, look for the digital
tick Logo to ensure it will work after switchover.
